Missoula Stampede wins rodeo awards in January
At the Montana Pro Rodeo Circuit Finals in Great Falls, Missoula Stampede Pro Rodeo walked away
with a pair of awards. The Stampede won Most Improved Rodeo and the state's Circuit Rodeo
Committee of the Year award. It was the first time in the history of the 30-year-old circuit that a
single rodeo won both awards in one year. More than 300 professional cowboys and cowgirls are
slated to compete for more than $48,000 during this year's Missoula Stampede Aug. 14-15 at the
Western Montana Fairgrounds in Missoula.

If you saw the color pink popping up a lot on Friday, you weren't alone. Mayor John Engen has
proclaimed August 14th "Tough Enough to Wear Pink Day" in Missoula. This is a national campaign
within the rodeo community that started in 2006. This pink push is put towards the hopes of
raising awareness for breast cancer.
Out at the Western Montana Fair, many cowboys got in the spirit by getting their fingernails
polished. Shannone Hart, co-chair of Chicks n Chaps, said "You see rodeo cowboys who are as
tough as they get and they're not ashamed to put on their pink shirts or wear their pink chaps or
paint pink ribbons on the haunches of their horses. It's are you tough enough? Definitely Missoula
has said we are tough enough to wear pink and tough enough to support breast cancer." More...
